After a protracted contract negotiation stalemate, the Washington Sentinels football team goes on strike. Team owner Edward O'Neill, however, is determined to finish the season. He contacts an old friend and former NFL coach named Jimmy McGinty and, together, they hatch a plan. Since the professional players are on strike, they'll have to bring in "scabs" to complete the final four games of the season. To lead their unorthodox replacement team, they enlist a down-on-his-luck former Ohio State player named Shane Falco. In his role as the Sentinel's new starting quarterback, Shane is in charge of getting a ragtag group of misfits and has-beens ready to compete in the NFL. His unlikely teammates include an ex-con, a sumo wrestler, and an English former soccer star.
