Two ordinary men, Harry and Moe, work as low-level runners for a mob boss in New Jersey. They pine for the day when they get assigned big jobs, but for now, they have little errands, like picking up the boss's laundry and taking money to place bets. When the boss sends them to the racetrack to bet on a particular horse, they place a few hundred thousand dollars' worth of money on the wrong horse, losing the boss's money. The boss's punishment is for the one to kill the other. Knowing what happens in the mob world to people who don't follow through, they decide to go on the run. They hope to seek safety and a solution from Harry's uncle, also in the mob.
