A New York advertising executive becomes a victim of mistaken identity when agents of a smuggling organization mistakenly presume him to be an obstacle to their operation. The executive’s predicament is compounded when a murder is framed so that he appears to be the perpetrator. After having his reports of mistaken identity doubted, he panics in response to the murder and flees to Chicago by train. Aware of his movements, the smugglers place a female accomplice on the train to meet him. Once in Chicago, she seemingly offers assistance to solve his dilemma. The smugglers have also followed along but are killed or captured after a meeting at Mount Rushmore. The female agent is revealed to be a double spy for the government.
