In 1976, the final day of school at Robert E. Lee High in Texas features hazing directed at both sexes of the freshman class. The males are punished by spanking, while the females endure insults and embarrassment. Mitch Kramer is a freshman who, as one of the primary targets of abuse, discovers what he is made of. Randall Floyd enjoys his status as a senior and quarterback of the school's football team while easily getting along with many different peer groups. All paths converge at a wild party, where everyone finds common ground.
