It’s 1957, and Colin Clark has landed his dream job. He’ll be working as an assistant to Laurence Olivier as he directs the movie The Prince and the Showgirl. For a hopeful filmmaker, it doesn’t get much better. Colin finds himself in charge of finding accommodations for the film’s American star, Marilyn Monroe, just in from Hollywood. Like everyone, he’s fascinated by Marilyn’s dual persona: her confident sex appeal and yet her insecurities as an actress and her troubled vulnerability as a human being. Despite his growing attraction to a girl working in wardrobe, Colin finds himself drawn irresistibly into Marilyn’s orbit, trying to protect her from director Olivier’s criticisms and Marilyn’s own self destructive tendencies.
